Many of Emily Dickinson’s most famous lyrics take the form of homilies, or short moral sayings_1_appear quite simple but that actually describe complicated moral and psychological truths. “Success is counted sweetest” is such a poem; its first two lines _2_  its homiletic point, that “Success is counted sweetest / By those who ne’er succeed” (or, more generally, that people tend to desire things more acutely when they do not have them). The subsequent lines then develop that axiomatic truth by offering a pair of _3_  that exemplify it: the nectar—a _4_  of triumph, luxury, “success”—can best be comprehended by someone who “needs” it; the defeated, dying man understands victory more clearly __5_ the victorious army does. The poem exhibits Dickinson’s keen awareness of the complicated truths of human desire (in a later poem on a similar theme, she wrote that “Hunger—was a __6_that shows the beginnings of her terse, compacted style, whereby complicated meanings are compressed into extremely short _7_  (e.g., “On whose forbidden ear”).

A _1_ , on the other hand, is self-committed to upholding a personal standard of living where animals are concerned. The vegan will often go beyond eliminating meat, dairy and animal _2_ , to become an activist for animal rights. Generally, the vegan point of view is that animals are not here to be exploited_3_man, and that commercialization of animals necessarily involves a fundamental, inhumane component and lack of respect for basic life. Unfortunately, cruel methods are often cheaper methods, and animals raised for meat or dairy products by commercial interests are commonly and routinely kept in abusive _4_  and slaughtered inhumanely in the interest of a competitive marketplace.

There are also humanitarian issues associated with being vegetarian and vegan. It has been proven that _5_ land used for grazing cattle was instead used to raise crops, world hunger could be easily eliminated. Pound for pound, cattle consume far more _6_ in grains than they deliver in meat. __7_ , many third world countries raise cattle in order to __8__the meat to wealthy nations, while their own masses starve, unable to afford meat.

However, _9_  might be the most common reason for becoming a vegetarian or vegan. While personal beliefs about animals differ and world hunger remains a remote reality to most people in industrialized nations, people do respond readily to the idea of personal __10_ .

To this end, international, independent studies conducted by the world’s leading health organizations have provided far-reaching and _11_  research. Beginning in the early 80s and continuing through the late 90s, studies found that a vegetarian diet is far healthier than one which includes meat. This conclusion is backed by redundant, real-life measurable, statistical _12_ . The organizations (and studies) include the British Medical Association (BMA), The China Study, The World Health Organization (WHO), the Oxford Study, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), and the American Dietetic Association. The basic finding is that eliminating meat reduces the _13_  of contracting many types of chronic diseases and some types of cancer. While a vegetarian diet has since been deemed the healthiest diet of all, the _14_  one moves towards a vegan diet, the greater the benefits. Many companies that __15_ health insurance now offer discounts to vegetarians and vegans.

III Reading
Depression is a state of low mood and aversion to activity that can affect a person's thoughts, behavior, feelings and sense of well-being.[1][2] People with depressed mood can feel sad, anxious, empty, hopeless, helpless, worthless, guilty, irritable or restless. They may lose interest in activities that were once pleasurable, experience loss of appetite or overeating, have problems concentrating, remembering details or making decisions, and may contemplate, attempt or commit suicide. Insomnia, excessive sleeping, fatigue, aches, pains, digestive problems or reduced energy may also be present.

Depressed mood is a feature of some psychiatric syndromes such as major depressive disorder,[2] but it may also be a normal reaction to life events such as bereavement, a symptom of some bodily ailments or a side effect of some drugs and medical treatments.

A number of psychiatric syndromes feature depressed mood as a main symptom. The mood disorders are a group of disorders considered to be primary disturbances of mood. These include major depressive disorder (MDD; commonly called major depression or clinical depression) where a person has at least two weeks of depressed mood or a loss of interest or pleasure in nearly all activities; and dysthymia, a state of chronic depressed mood, the symptoms of which do not meet the severity of a major depressive episode. Another mood disorder, bipolar disorder, features one or more episodes of abnormally elevated mood, cognition and energy levels, but may also involve one or more episodes of depression. When the course of depressive episodes follows a seasonal pattern, the disorder (major depressive disorder, bipolar disorder, etc.) may be described as a seasonal affective disorder.

Outside the mood disorders: borderline personality disorder often features an extremely intense depressive mood; adjustment disorder with depressed mood is a mood disturbance appearing as a psychological response to an identifiable event or stressor, in which the resulting emotional or behavioral symptoms are significant but do not meet the criteria for a major depressive episode;[16]:355 and posttraumatic stress disorder, an anxiety disorder that sometimes follows trauma, is commonly accompanied by depressed mood.[17]

Typically, people are treated with antidepressant medication and, in many cases, also receive counseling, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).[3] Medication appears to be effective, but the effect may only be significant in the most severely depressed.[4][5] Hospitalization may be necessary in cases with associated self-neglect or a significant risk of harm to self or others. A minority are treated with electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). The course of the disorder varies widely, from one episode lasting weeks to a lifelong disorder with recurrent major depressive episodes. Depressed individuals have shorter life expectancies than those without depression, in part because of greater susceptibility to medical illnesses and suicide. It is unclear whether or not medications affect the risk of suicide. Current and former patients may be stigmatized.

The understanding of the nature and causes of depression has evolved over the centuries, though this understanding is incomplete and has left many aspects of depression as the subject of discussion and research. Proposed causes include psychological, psycho-social, hereditary, evolutionary and biological factors. Long-term substance abuse may cause or worsen depressive symptoms. Psychological treatments are based on theories of personality, interpersonal communication, and learning. Most biological theories focus on the monoamine chemicals serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine, which are naturally present in the brain and assist communication between nerve cells. This cluster of symptoms (syndrome) was named, described and classified as one of the mood disorders in the 1980 edition of the American Psychiatric Association's diagnostic manual.

Robert Frost is one sneaky fella. At first glance, "Design" seems like a simple little poem. It even has a nice singsong-y meter and rhyme. It sounds _1_  Mother Goose, in fact—until it gets really, really dark, that is.

The… design of "Design" shouldn't be a surprise, though. Frost was an old school_2_  While all these newfangled modern poets would spring up in the twentieth century and write in their hip, new forms, Frost was determined to stick it out with classical _3_ schemes and meters. And, on the surface at least, he seems to write about old school subjects—_4_ shocking or edgy, just little pictures of life in New England.

But, like we said, Frost is a sneaky chap. First published in 1936, "Design" isn't really so simple as it looks. Frost springs a vicious trap _5_  the reader, setting them up to read a cute little poem about a spider sitting on a flower, then plunging us into the very heart of the meaning of life.

What's _6___about life , you ask? Well, everything about the poem rides on the idea of "coincidence." Are coincidences random? Do some weird things "just happen"? Or is there a purpose—an intelligence—at the heart of everything? In the poem, Frost __7__on a bizarre scene, which is a __8_ for a struggled person.

III   Reading
If you want to save the environment, start off by looking at what you put in your mouth.

Whatever your diet, and whatever reasons you have for eating the foods you do, there are clear consequences to what ends up on your plate.

Foods are not inherently neutral in the context of the earth, and most have an environmental toll. A few, however, can give mother nature a helping hand and reverse the chronic degeneration underway on much of the earth. Your food can actually save the environment.

Our world has finite resources, though from the perspective of a single person it can seem impossibly vast and abundant.

Water, which is so critical to all life on earth, is one such resource. Ask an inhabitant of the perennially drought-stricken western United States if they have enough to go on if you have any doubts. We can't save the environment without water.

The soil we walk on seems infinite, but billions of tons of topsoil have been lost in the last 50 years due to unsustainable land management practices. We cannot save the environment if we can't feed ourselves.

Our world is also vulnerable to toxic fungicides and pesticides which are liberally spread over crops, endangering us and polluting the earth. We can't save the environment if we continue to pollute it.

It's clear that one diet actually helps the planet, and that's a raw, organic, fruit-based diet that also includes plenty of vegetables as well as nuts and seeds.

Below, and in subsequent articles, I hope to show you why adopting such a diet is best not only for you, but for the earth as well.

Eat all you care for, but choose foods that save the environment.

If there is no underlying medical cause for your symptoms of depression, then finding a mental health specialist is the next best step for treatment. Although there are many types of mental health professionals, one of the most important things to consider when choosing a therapist is your connection with this person. The right therapist will be a caring and supportive partner in your depression treatment and recovery.

There are many ways to find a therapist. Word of mouth is one of the best ways to find a good therapist. Your friends and family may have some ideas, or your primary care doctor may be able to provide an initial referral. National mental health organizations can also help with referral lists of licensed credentialed providers. If cost is an issue, check out local senior centers, religious organizations, and community mental health clinics. Such places often offer therapy on a sliding scale for payment.

Talk therapy is an extremely effective treatment for depression. What you learn in therapy gives you skills and insight to help prevent depression from coming back.

Some types of therapy teach you practical techniques on how to reframe negative thinking and employ behavioral skills in combating depression. Therapy can also help you work through the root of your depression, helping you understand why you feel a certain way, what your triggers are for depression, and what you can do to stay healthy.

Rabbinate Tagore was born in Calcutta into a wealthy and prominent family. His father was Maharishi Dendrachate Tagore, a religious reformer and scholar. His mother, Sandarac Devi, died when Tagore was very young – he realized that she will never come back was when her body was carried through a gate to a place where it was burned. Ta gore's grandfather had established a huge financial empire for himself. He helped a number of public projects, such as Calcutta Medical College.

In 1883 Tagore married Mrinalini Devi Raichaudhuri, with whom he had two sons and three daughters. In 1890 Tagore moved to East Bengal (now Bangladesh), where he collected local legends and folklore. Between 1893 and 1900 he wrote seven volumes of poetry, including Sonar Tari (1894, The Golden Boat), and Kanika (1899, Short Poems). This was highly productive period in Tagore's life, and earned him the rather misleading epitaph 'The Bengali Shelley.' More important was that Tagore wrote in the common language of the people. This also was something that was hard to accept among his critics and scholars.

Tagore was the first Indian to bring an element of psychological realism to his novels. Among his early major prose works are Chokher Bali (1903, Eyesore) and Nastanirh (1901, The Broken Nest), published first serially. Between 1891 and 1895 he published forty-four short stories in Bengali periodical, most of them in the monthly journal Sadhana.

Especially Tagore's short stories influenced deeply Indian Literature. 'Punishment', a much anthologized work, was set in a rural village. It describes the oppression of women through the tragedy of the low-caste Rui family. Chandara is a proud, beautifulwoman, "buxom, well-rounded, compact and sturdy," her husband, Chidam, is a farm-laborer, who works in the fields with his brother Dukhiram. One day when they return home after whole day of toil and humiliation, Dukhiram kills in anger his sloppy and slovenly wife because his food was not ready. To help his brother, Chidam's tells to police that his wife struck her sister-in-law with the farm-knife. Chandara takes the blame on to herself. 'In her thoughts, Chandara was saying to her husband, "I shall give my youth to the gallows instead of you. My final ties in this life will be with them."' Afterwards both Chidam and Dukhiram try to confess that they were guilty but Chandara is convicted. Just before the hanging, the doctor says that her husband wants to see her. "To hell with him," says Chandara.

Lacto-vegetarian diets are popular with many followers of the Eastern religious traditions such as Hinduism, Sikhism, Jainism and Buddhism. The cores of their beliefs behind a lacto-vegetarian diet is the law of ahimsa, or non-violence.[2] According to the Vedas, (Hindu holy scriptures), all living beings are equally valued.[3][4] Also, Hindus believe that one's personality is affected by the kind of food one consumes, and eating flesh is considered bad for one's spiritual/mental well-being. __C__ many more lives are destroyed, and in this way more suffering is caused when meat is consumed.__A__This further excludes from the diet vegetables like carrots, potatoes, onions and garlic. Although some suffering and pain is inevitably caused to other living beings to satisfy the human need for food, according to ahimsa, every effort should be made to minimize suffering._E__ In this sense, wastage of food is considered a sin. _B_, relating to those beings affected by our need for food._D_

In the case of Jainism, the vegetarian standards are even more strict. It allows the consumption of only fruit and leaves that can be taken from plants without causing their death.

(B)Because all living beings are equally valued in these traditions, a vegetarian diet rooted in ahimsa is only one aspect of environmentally conscious living
(C) It takes many more vegetables or plants to produce an equal amount of meat,
(D) Environmentalism and vegetarianism are often practiced together.
(E)This is to avoid karmic consequences and show respect for living things.

_C__. On your own, it can be difficult to maintain perspective and sustain the effort required to beat depression, but the very nature of depression makes it difficult to reach out for help. __E

The thought of reaching out to even close family members and friends can seem overwhelming. You may feel ashamed, too exhausted to talk, or guilty for neglecting the relationship. Remind yourself that this is the depression talking. _A_ Your loved ones care about you and want to help. And remember, it’s never too late to build new friendships and improve your support network.

Turn to trusted friends and family members. _D__.The people you talk to don’t have to be able to fix you; they just need to be good listeners. Ask for the help and support you need. You may have retreated from your most treasured relationships, but they can get you through this tough time.
__B__. Often when you’re depressed, it feels more comfortable to retreat into your shell, but being around other people will make you feel less depressed.

Reaching out is not a sign of weakness and it won’t mean you’re a burden to others.
Try to keep up with social activities even if you don’t feel like it.
(C) Getting the support you need plays a big role in lifting the fog of depression and keeping it away.
(D) Share what you’re going through with the people you love and trust, face to face if possible.
(E) However, isolation and loneliness make depression even worse, so maintaining your close relationships and social activities are important.

IV   Reading
A study conducted at Harvard University revealed that relationships benefit when wives regularly let their husbands know when they are feeling happy. The researchers in the Harvard study surveyed 156 couples in committed relationships. Each participant was asked to recall a time in their relationship that had been upsetting for them. The researchers then compared how each of the partners reacted to that moment in an attempt to examine how accurately one partner perceived and responded to the other's feelings. They then compared this data to how satisfied in their relationships the participants reported being.

"Relationship satisfaction ... seems to relate more to positive emotions for men and to negative emotions for women," reported psychologist Shiri Cohen, lead author of the study. Men tended to report greater relationship satisfaction then they were able to identify when their wives were happy. This correlation did not appear as robust for identifying when wives were angry or upset. By contrast, womens' satisfaction was correlated with their ability to read when their partner was upset, hurt, or angry. The correlation did not exist as strongly for identifying when husbands were happy.
Why do women feel marital satisfaction when their husbands share unhappy feelings?

The Harvard study found that when men felt willing to express their anger or frustration, women took their emotional sharing as a sign that their partners were investing in the relationship. This signal of investment proved satisfying and comforting to the majority of the women in the study. As the wives felt happy to feel connected with their spouse, the husbands ten also felt happier.

Another explanation is that women tend to experience satisfaction from nurturing. When their husband feels bad and talking together seems to help him, wives may feel good about having been part of "fixing" the emotional problem.

Why do men feel especially satisfied with their marriage when their wives express contentment?

Men, at least in the Harvard study, commonly expressed more fulfillment in their marriage when women expressed to them that they felt fulfilled and satisfied in their partnership. The old joke about "happy wife, happy life" seems to have merit. Men (though women also) tend to absorb the emotions of their spouse. Therefore when men hear their wife express feelings of happiness, their own happiness increases. Interestingly, this finding parallels the phenomenon that men feel sexual excitement when their wife expresses sounds that indicate that she is feeling sexually aroused.
What do these findings suggest about sharing feelings in marriage?

Men: feel encouraged to pipe up more when you are feeling low. Admitting you are having problems is a sign of great strength and trust in your spouse and gives her a chance to feel helpful. Be sure, though, that when you are discussing your problems in marriage you stay away from "you" statements that might sound critical or accusatory to your spouse. "You don't pay enough attention to me" will be less likely to arouse your wife's empathy that "I have been feeling lonely."

Deep breathing is one of the best ways to _4_ stress in the body. This is because when you breathe deeply, it sends a message to your brain to calm down and relax. Food transport is _4_  for the UK adding nearly 19 million tonnes of carbon dioxide to the _5_ each year. Over 2 million tonnes of this is produced_6_  by cars traveling to and from shops.

Winter_1_  is a common slump in the mood of some inhabitants of most of the Nordic countries. It was first described by the 6th century Goth scholar Jordanes in his Getica wherein he described the inhabitants of Scandza.Iceland, however, seems to be an exception. A _2_ of more than 2000 people there found the prevalence of seasonal _3_  disorder and seasonal changes in anxiety and depression to be unexpectedly low in both sexes. The study's authors suggested that propensity for SAD may differ due to some genetic factor within the Icelandic population. A study of Canadians of wholly Icelandic descent also showed low _4_  of SAD. It has more recently been suggested that this may be attributed to the large _5_ of fish traditionally eaten by Icelandic people, in 2007 about 90 kilograms per person per year as opposed to about 24 kg in the US and Canada,[52] rather than to genetic predisposition; a similar anomaly is noted in Japan, where annual fish consumption in recent years averages about 60 kg per capita.

Similes and _1_  are two of the most powerful tools in the writer's toolkit when it comes to imagery and describing things. Both create_2_  by comparing two unconnected things: similes describe something as being like something else, while metaphors describe something as if it is something else. Naturally, they are used a lot in poetry_3_ the writer has limited words to get his message, or vision, across. Metaphors and similes can be used to _4_  things that would otherwise be difficult to picture, such as feelings and _5_ , or simply to put a fresh spin on familiar things.

When you _6_ something, write a _7_  of similes to describe your subject. Remember, a simile compares the subject to something else using "like" or "as." The comparison should describe something very specific. _8_ , describe your partner's hair by saying: "Her hair is like silk." This suggests it is soft and lustrous. Write down all the _9_ that come _10_your mind. Some won't be used in the final poem, but that doesn't matter. At this stage you are just getting some ideas out.

Exercise _1_ your brainpower by increasing serotonin, which makes you more productive. It also decreases stress levels and gives you more energy via endorphin release. Even better, _2_  exercise keeps you healthier and slows down progression of heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure. Keep_3_  your exercise plan and you'll find yourself with a strengthened cardiovascular system.
But what about running in particular? Running burns the most _4_  of just about any type of exercise you might do at the gym.
Even though it may be OK to work out with a cold, you should understand and respect your personal limits. If you're feeling weak and can't perform to your usual ability, it might be time to take a break until you feel better. Exercise can aggravate an existing infection. Also, if your performance is diminished, you're losing the _5_ of the workout anyway, especially when you _6 _ a cold.

Just as livestock raised for _4_  are often pumped full of antibiotics, dairy cows are often fed artificial hormones to up their milk production.
